About The HYUNDAI ELANTRA

The Hyundai Elantra is manufactured by the South Korean-based Hyundai. The Hyundai Elantra was introduced in 1990 as advertised a compact car, although has been classified as a mid-size vehicle and is currently a strong contender as a niche in the market. It was originally introduced to phase out the Hyundai Excel; however, the Excel was replaced by the Accent after four years of production. The Hyundai Elantra is also known as the Hyundai Lantra in Australia and various European markets.

Over the past 21 years that Hyundai has produced the Elantra it has debuted five different generations of the Hyundai Elantra. Along the years, the Hyundai Elantra line has seen various transitions to its exteriors and upgrades to its interior design and equipment. Originally introduced as a sedan, body styles have also included a wagon and a hatchback design, both of which were introduced to the line in 1995. The Hyundai Elantra wagon design was available until 2001, when the third generation was introduced. The third generation of the Hyundai Elantra brought with it a resigned exterior and dashboard. In 2006, the Hyundai Elantra experienced yet another redesign. The redesign included a focus on the inclusion of a more fuel-efficient engine. In addition, this generation of the Hyundai Elantra included the introduction of the Avante “LPI Hybrid” to the South Korean market in 2009. This version of the Hyundai Elantra was the first hybrid electric to rely on advanced lithium polymer batteries, and was powered by an internal combustion engine that ran on liquefied petroleum gas. The Hyundai Elantra Touring was also introduced during the fourth generation.

The Hyundai Elantra is currently in its fifth generation. There are currently two trim levels available, the GLS and the Limited. The Hyundai Elantra GLS model comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Hyundai Elantra Limited edition comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Hyundai Elantra model comes standard with an auxiliary input jack, and satellite radio capability. The Hyundai Elantra Limited includes luxury amenities such as, heated leather seats in the front and the rear, and Proximity Key entry.

The Hyundai Elantra has received much acclaim over the years. The Hyundai Elantra SE model was named a “Top Pick” by Consumer Reports in 2008” and was featured as a top ten vehicle in the magazines automobile issue. U.S. News and World Report named the Hyundai Elantra the “Best Compact Car for the Money” in 2009. Most recently, in 2011, the Hyundai Elantra was named the Highest Residual Value in its class by the ALG. With continual upgrades to its interior, and the most interior space in its class the Hyundai Elantra will continue to be a competitor in today’s compact car market.
