About The HONDA ODYSSEY

The Honda Odyssey model was introduced in 1994. It was originally engineered by Kunimichi Odagaki and a group of 20 others at Honda Motor Company. Several variations of the Honda Odyssey are available, depending on the market. The Honda Odyssey is currently in its fourth generation in the North American and Japanese markets.

The first generation Honda Odyssey sat either six or seven and was offered in two trim levels, the LX and the EX. The new Honda Odyssey minivan varied from its minivan competitors in several ways. Firstly, the new Honda Odyssey featured four, swing door style doors (as opposed to the traditional sliding door for which vans are known). Secondly, the new Honda Odyssey was equipped with a four-cylinder engine; whereas, many of its competitors offered a V6 engine. Another difference was that the Honda Odyssey offered fold-flat third row seating. In 1997, the first generation Honda Odyssey underwent a remodel which included a more powerful 2.3 L engine, as well as exterior and interior modifications.

The second generation Honda Odyssey arrived on the market in 1998 and was larger and more powerful. The Honda Odyssey now featured sliding side doors, and a V6 engine. Several additional updates were available to the Honda Odyssey during the second generation as technology advanced. These additions include satellite navigation systems and visual entertainment systems.

The third generation Honda Odyssey minivan debuted in 2004 and was manufactured through 2009. The redesigned Honda Odyssey was available in four trim levels including the LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. The EX was the first model to offer eight-person seating. When upgrading to the EX-L, options included heated leather seats and a sunroof. The Honda Odyssey Touring model further offered triple-zone climate controls, parking sensors and adjustable pedals.

The Honda Odyssey is now in its fifth generation, which was launched with the 2011 model at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show. The new Honda Odyssey features a 248hp V6 engine on all models. The fully-redesigned Honda Odyssey is available in five trim levels: the LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and Touring Elite. All Honda Odyssey models come standard with power windows, mirrors and locks; steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls; tire pressure monitoring system and brake assist, among other standard features. Additional upgraded model features for the 2011 Honda Odyssey included tri-zone climate controls; heated leather seating; moon roof; HomeLink Remote System; upgraded audio system with hard disk drive memory and XM radio; and 16.2-inch split-screen, ultra wide DVD rear entertainment system with HDMI technology.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration assigned the Honda Odyssey the highest five-star rating each seating position, and in the Overall Vehicle Score category. The 2011 Honda Odyssey was also selected by Kelley Blue Book editors as a “Top 10 Family Cars” choice.
